How I Made My First $100 Online Without a Job
I didn’t have a job. I didn’t have a bank account. I definitely didn’t have a plan.
But I did have one thing — the internet.
Back when I first started freelancing, I was a full-time student with no real experience and a whole lot of curiosity. I didn’t land a $100 project right away. What I did was take on small, scattered gigs that added up.
And one day, I looked at my little earnings tracker and realized I’d made $100 online.
It felt like magic.
What I Actually Did
I tried almost everything. These were not scams or surveys; they are just small services I could actually do.
-
Polished CVs and resumes for people who didn’t know how to format or write them
-
Managed Instagram and Facebook pages for local brands — mostly friends of friends
-
Wrote blog posts and paraphrased academic content
-
Took on small gigs on Facebook groups and freelance platforms
None of it was fancy. Some of it barely paid anything. But every task taught me something.
And the more I did, the more I realized — I didn’t need a job title to earn money. I just needed to offer something people found useful.
I Didn’t Even Have a Bank Account
This part’s funny now, but at the time it was a real struggle.
I didn’t have a way to receive international payments. So I asked my mom if I could use her digital wallet. She agreed. Every time I got paid, I’d transfer the money to her and she’d give me the cash.
It was clumsy. But it worked.
Eventually, I got my own setup. But back then, that first $100 — stored in someone else’s account — was proof that I could earn independently.
What I Want You to Know
If you’re a student or someone just starting out, and you’re feeling stuck because you don’t have a “real” job — don’t wait for one.
-
Offer small services based on skills you already have
-
Say yes to odd jobs — social media, writing, editing, whatever works
-
Don’t let lack of experience or tools stop you
-
Keep track of everything — it adds up quicker than you think
That first $100 might feel small. But it changes something in you. It shows you that you can do this.
And once you know that, there’s no going back.
